FAQs

We've been asked these questions quite a few times, so we thought we'd go ahead and answer them for you. If you have further questions, feel free to shoot us an email or give us a call!

Can you guarantee publicity hits for my book?

Ah, if only we controlled the world! Unfortunately, no, we cannot guarantee for you what a person whom we do have ultimate control of will do. We can guarantee that you and your book will be pitched in the best possible manner to a targeted media list. Our success rate is pretty high because we do our homework on what outlets have covered books similar to yours and we take the time to form relationship with media representatives.

I have a book contract, but my book doesn't come out for at least a year. Is it too soon to contact you?

Call us! Call us! Call us! Our campaigns can begin as early as 12 months prior to the publication of your book. Our cut off is six months - meaning we need your book under contract at least six months prior to its publication. This gives us the ability to meet the deadlines of long-term media (magazines), which are anywhere from four to six months. It also allows us the time to create a targeted media list specific to your book. If you've written the next great thriller, we certainly don't want to call reviewers who love a good tear jerker, right?

My book came out this month. Can you do anything for me?

Short answer: no. You might want to spend some time calling radio stations and providing them with copies of your book to give away on air.

I don't have an agent, but my manuscript is finished. What do I do now?

First, congrats on finishing your book! There are a couple of avenues you can now stroll down. Most manuscripts can benefit from an outside editor taking a crack at them. We provide that service to authors through both content and line editing. During content editing, our editors read your manuscript and provide feedback to you on over-arching issues such as plot and character development. They'll also let you know if something doesn't quite work. When your story has been content edited, we then go back and line edit it. This means we read it again, line-by-line, purely for grammar's sake.

You also need to set about finding an agent. There are numerous resources out there to aid you in this quest. If GRPR edits your manuscript, we'll also assist you in finding an agent - probably one with whom we enjoy relationship.

Use this time as well to become involved in the publishing world. Go to a conference or two - meet the folks who make this business hum! GRPR has been honored to teach at some of the more prestigious writing conference such as the Mount Hermon Christian Writers Conference and Blue Ridge Writers Conference. We also attend the International Christian Retail Show each year.

Can you get me published?

We are not a publishing house, though we do enjoy relationship with many of them. We can definitely assist you in following the steps to become published, including acquiring an agent and honing your craft.

Can you be my agent?

Only if God decides to put 32 hours in each day. Our days are spent editing and publicizing works of fiction. There are other individuals who are gifted with the ability to be literary agents and we're happy to steer you toward some of them.

What do your services cost?

Ah, the money question. The answer depends on which service you would like to purchase. Editing has a set fee of $1500 for each type (line and content), $3000 for the total editing package. It's important to note that we do not stop the editing process until all parties are satisfied with the manuscript. Some companies require a fee and only give 2 or 3 rounds of editing remarks. That works for some authors who only need 2 or 3 rounds, right? We know at the end of the editing process that your manuscript has become a representation of Glass Road PR as well, and we'll help you make sure that it's the best representation of both you and us that it could possibly be.

Book proposal creation is a flat $1000 and takes about a month.

Publicity campaign fees vary widely depending upon which services are being applied to the campaign, the length of campaign, and a host of other factors. If you'd like to discuss a publicity fee, please feel free to email us about your book. We would love the chance for discussion.

Who pays your fee?

We have several options for payment.

  • (1) Your publisher may agree to pay our entire fee.
  • (2) You may pay our entire fee.
  • (3) You and your publisher may split the fee.

Does publicity really help sell more copies of my book?

Yes. We've been told by authors, agents, and publishers that books whose publicity was conducted by GRPR sold more copies than others.  Remember, though, that there are many people involved in the process of selling your books through bookstores - publishing house sales reps, bookstore owners, bookstore clerks, etc. While publicity plays a big role in making consumers aware of your book, these key figures also ensure your book is available and noticeable to consumers in stores.
